Rabbit Color Genetics for Beginners

When I first got into rabbits all I had was New Zealand Whites. They were meant to be for meat so I didn’t really care that they would all be plain white. Then one day I got a trio of Rex and it changed my world. The NZ were all sold off and I started learning about how to breed for color. Unfortunately, one of the first things I noticed was that all the information out there, even the information aimed at the beginner, seemed to cover a lot of information and in a way that seemed too difficult for the true beginner.

With time, effort and a lot of studying I did finally start to learn what I wanted, and needed, to know about breeding for color but I’ve always kept my eye out for a place that I could send others to begin their journey. I’ve found some really great site, and books, but none that was aimed at the true newbie. Eventually, I realized that the best way to get what I wanted was to make it myself. The idea behind the articles in this series is to start at the very beginning and then use that information as a base for the next one. Each article will expand on what’s been learned before it so that hopefully you’ll be able to absorb the lessons one at a time rather than have it thrown at you all at once.
